Duty of Care Workshops
ABSA RUNS DUTY OF CARE WORKSHOPS FOR BOARDING SCHOOL STAFF, AND FOR GAP ASSISTANTS.
If you are looking to understand the role you are playing in your boarding school these one day workshops will help you to understand and become competent in this important work.
These workshop is designed to be a practical course which establishes a national standard of basic knowledge and skills necessary to perform boarding duties effectively.
The workshops cover two levels -
Level 2 - Essential Elements is the critical information every boarding staff member needs to be safe in their role. The workshop will cover all of the essential knowledge needed by staff to be effective in their role, covering much of the critical school and legal information needed by all boarding staff. Topics include what boarding is all about, what is their role as a staff member, Child Protection is a boarding setting, emergency response, mental health issues, how boarders use modern technology and the concepts of security and supervision.
The days’ learning will include information sharing, group discussion and individual input. Those attending will be provided with a resource booklet to help with the course content, and a certificate of completion.
Level 3 - Pastoral Pillars covers the important topics of how we actually care for our boarders. The workshop will cover the fundamentals of the boarding program, including positive ways of supporting the pastoral care of the boarders. Topics include how children grownup and mature, how we might pastorally care for the boarders, a look at bullying, a look at effective discipline, and an understanding of rural boarders, first nations boarders and international boarders.
This will especially help staff to be more effective in their role, and will include information sharing, group discussion and individual input. Those attending will be provided with a resource booklet to help with the course content, and a certificate of completion.

Cancellations received two weeks prior to workshop date will not be charged.
Cancellations after this date will be given no refund, however registrations may be transferred.
If there are unexpected circumstances, we can offer a future credit to a workshop. However, there will be a $50 administration fee included to do so.
