ROBERT FITZGERALD AM

THE ROYAL COMMISSION INTO INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSES TO CHILD ABUSE - WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW.

Robert Fitzgerald AM is a Commissioner with the Productivity Commission and was a Commissioner on the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse for 5 years. He has been a fulltime Commissioner with the Productivity Commission since January 2004, other than during the period of the Royal Commission. Prior to that appointment Robert was the NSW Community and Disability Services Commissioner and Deputy Ombudsman. Robert, a commercial lawyer by profession, has a diverse background and extensive experience in commerce, law, public policy and community services, including extensive involvement in many not-for-profit agencies. He has served on numerous NGO boards and committees including previously as President Australian Council of Social Service. Robert was the inaugural Chair of the Advisory Board, Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission. Robert has been a commissioner or panel member on 17 national inquiries in economic and social policy areas. He was also the Convenor on the intergovernmental working group responsible for producing the biennial Overcoming Indigenous Disadvantage Report. Robert holds degrees in commerce and law from the University of NSW and an honorary doctorate from the Australian Catholic University.  He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1994.
