Toowoomba Grammar School is seeking a highly motivated and passionate House Manager to join our boarding house team and play a crucial role in the care and wellbeing of the boarding students, helping them to feel at home and thrive in their academic and personal lives. Boarding staff are, in effect, surrogate parents who must provide care, counselling and discipline.
About Toowoomba Grammar School
Toowoomba Grammar School was founded in 1875 and is a member school of the Great Public Schools Association of Queensland (GPS). It is an independent non-denominational day and boarding school for boys with a total enrolment of close to 1,200 from Preparatory to Year 12. There are approximately 300 boarders in the School coming predominantly from throughout Queensland, Northern New South Wales and the Northern Territory. The School’s campus covers 20.5 hectares and is located one kilometre from the centre of Toowoomba.

About the Position
The House Manager provides supervision and care for around 50 male boarders ranging from year level 8 – 12. The House Manager supports the Head of Boarding House through management of the operational and administrative responsibilities of the boarding house, ensuring a smooth running of the house.
The House Manager will have the capacity to establish trusting connections with individual boarders and their families, to build that all-important relationship with home. It is expected that the House Manager will implement the routines and protocols that underpin living in a residential setting to ensure each boy is both safe and happy while in boarding.
House Managers operate on daily spilt shifts (6:00am – 9:00am and 3:00pm – 8:00pm) Monday – Friday and during shifts, the House Manager may access meals in the School’s Dining Hall with their House.
No supervision duty is required during school holiday periods.
About you:
You will be highly regarded for your ability to demonstrate authenticity, understand and work co-operatively with adolescent boys, have a passion for working with, and supporting the wellbeing and safety of young people as a mentor and a support person in a supervisory capacity.
You will possess the ability to provide a nurturing environment for young boys and enjoy assisting in the morning, before school routine. Your positivity and ability to motivate will be contagious and important to your ability to be a positive role model for the boys in the imparting expectations of readiness, and responsibility.

Requirements:
- A Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a boarding house

- ABSA Duty of Care Workshops (may be completed during onboarding)
- Current first aid qualifications and Blue Card

We are seeking to appoint people who are passionate about supporting the needs of our students who spend the majority of the year living away from home. For many of our students, boarding provides them with the opportunity to engage in learning, co-curricular and social activities that may otherwise not be available to them.
Our Boarding House Supervisors provide supervision of students within the Boarding House and at activities. They also work as a team to monitor and support the physical and emotional wellbeing of each student.
We have the potential for part-time and casual vacancies in Boys and Girls Boarding for suitable candidates.
Selection criteria
1. A passion for working with young people and be a resilient, caring, and positive person.
2. A practical understanding of the physical, emotional, and social issues facing students from a diverse range of backgrounds, living in a residential environment.

Boarding Assistants working closely with a team of Boarding Supervisors to assist and provide support to the Head of Boarding in ensuring the effective day to day operation of the Boarding House.
These roles, within the community of the Clayfield College Boarding House, will encompass the fostering of harmony amongst the boarders with attention to the welfare of individual students, regardless of race, colour or creed.
The work demands a high degree of discretion, initiative, analytical skill and sensitivity to the needs of adolescents often from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
To be successful in a boarding role, you must have a pleasant disposition, an ability to communicate with young people, and the ability to respond effectively, calmly, and with understanding to difficult and sometimes stressful situations, e.g. homesickness, misunderstanding engendered by students living in a boarding environment, health emergencies and normal difficulties encountered when dealing with adolescent individuals.
Boarding House Assistant - Residential
Hours of work for a Residential Boarding Assistant are 15 hours per week per school term (including rostered sleepovers) and will be worked Monday to Friday as directed by the Head of Boarding.
Accommodation and meals will be provided in accordance with the Award, in lieu of an allowance for the commitment of 15 hours per week. As this position is residential, staff are provided with accommodation for 52 weeks of the year consisting of a single bed-sitter with private ensuite. All meals are provided during term time (a minimum of 38 weeks per year).
Boarding Assistant - Weekend
Weekend Boarding Assistants are non-residential positions and work 15 hours per weekend during term time. Currently there is one position available to work 2:30pm to 10:30pm Saturday and 6:30am to 10:30pm Sunday.
This position is classified as a Level 2 in accordance with the Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award 2020 (as amended, renewed, replaced, or superseded).
Experience in a similar position is preferred but not necessary and a background and/or qualification in residential care would be considered an advantage.

The College requires full time and part-time Residential Supervisors for our Boarding Houses to commence as soon as possible. Applicants must be available to work weekends during term time.
ROLE STATEMENT:
Alongside other residential supervisors, you will be responsible for boarding students from metropolitan, rural and remote locations, before and after school and on the weekends. We offer a safe and nurturing environment for students to live onsite and attend school to further their education. You will be able to support students as they adjust to living away from home and their day to day needs. Under the guidance of the Head of Boarding you will have opportunities to connect with families and promote community/home partnerships.
The school uses trauma informed practices as a means of supporting student needs. The successful applicant must be willing to partake in training and upskilling in this area and will be required to utilise their interpersonal skills with students.The role will be to supervise and lead students in their social, emotional, physical and spiritual development and wellbeing. Shifts are offered during the week and over weekends, with the requirements to stay overnight while on shift.

Edmund Rice College in Bindoon is an agricultural college situated on 3500ha of farmland in the Shire of Chittering. The College is a small rural co-educational day and boarding school catering for 150 students from years 7 – 12 and approximately 45 minutes from Midland and Joondalup. Subsidised onsite housing may be available for successful candidates.

ROLE STATEMENT:
In this role you will be working under the guidance and support of the Head of Boarding, across the Senior and Junior boarding houses. You will be offering support to the residential supervisors and the students in each of the boarding houses, to support the successful day to day running of the houses, students in their emotional, social and behavioural needs and being on call for support to the residential supervisors during your shift.
Alongside the HoB and residential supervisors, you will be responsible for boarding students from metropolitan, rural and remote locations, before and after school and on the weekends. We offer a safe and nurturing environment for students to live onsite and attend school to further their education. You will be able to support students as they adjust to living away from home and their day to day needs. Under the guidance of the Head of Boarding you will have opportunities to connect with families and promote community/home partnerships.
The school uses trauma informed practices as a means of supporting student needs. The successful applicant must be willing to partake in training and upskilling in this area and will be required to utilise their interpersonal skills with students.
The role will be to supervise and lead students in their social, emotional, physical and spiritual development and wellbeing. Shifts are offered during the week and over weekends, with the requirements to stay overnight while on shift.
Selection Criteria
We are seeking an energetic and dynamic person who can engage with teenagers living away from home and support them in their goal of education.
- Be caring, empathetic and innovative.
