Residential Life enables country boys to experience the best of all worlds.
Country boys have a connection to the land, freedom and self-sufficiency of which others can only dream. However, they can miss out on the teaching resources, options and experiences that are available in Perth. For 118 years, Scotch College, situated in one of Western Australia’s most sought after locations, has been opening up a world of opportunity for country boys through their Residential Community.
The College offers the International Baccalaureate Programme, giving students a truly global outlook. Boys also have the option of WACE or VET in Years 11 and 12, allowing them to shape their learning journey to their interests. The College’s ‘open door’ tutoring system means they can get help with homework, assignments, or study whenever they need it.
While parents are only ever a Skype call away, it’s important for students to know there is someone on the ground they can turn to. Scotch’s new Head of Residential Life, Marcus Wilkinson, and his team create a real home away from home. Wilkinson says, “We strive to create a safe and supportive environment. It’s like joining a big, extended family.”
Country boys are accustomed to space, and Scotch’s boarding house overlooks 22 hectares of playing fields. The campus borders Lake Claremont and is near the Swan River and Indian Ocean, giving many boys their first opportunity to experience activities like surf lifesaving, sailing and rowing.
What could prepare a boy for life better than a country upbringing and a global education?
