At The Southport School (TSS), the focus has always been on boys’ education. As such, since 1901, the facilities, educational styles, co-curricular programs and face-to-face teaching remain at the forefront of the best practices for educating boys.

Education: At TSS, there is a proud tradition of educating boys and advances in research methodology has been able to confirm that we hold many of the best practices for boys’ education. These include the employment of thinking skills, gifted and talented education and leadership programs within the curriculum to inspire students to achieve their potential.

Boarding: Boarding has been an integral part of TSS for well over a century and as Boarders comprise one third of the present student body, it’s reasonable to say that TSS is a school dedicated to boarding, not just a school that happens to have boarders. But what really sets TSS apart is the uncompromising commitment to fostering a family environment in which the boys get to feel completely at home.

To further the sense of family, some 35 on-campus Boarding Staff provides each House with a Housemaster, Assistant Housemaster, Pastoral Care Tutors, Resident Tutors and Matron. In addition, the Headmaster and the Deputy Headmaster are always close at hand, as both reside within the School grounds.

Recent upgrades have created some of the best boarding facilities in Australia. Boys in each House have the use of a fully-equipped kitchen and recreation areas with pool tables, table tennis tables, cable televisions and other games. They can also access the School’s extensive computing facilities via wireless internet for research or home contact. Also recently completed is the refurbishment of “Rogers”, the Year 7 Boarding House.

Facilities: As a single gender school, infrastructure is geared towards boys and their optimum learning environments and, in the past decade, we have added or replaced many buildings to ensure our facilities give students access to the latest in cutting edge educational environments. Structures such as a science centre, outstanding sports facilities with basketball courts, gymnasium, rock-climbing wall, weights rooms and specialist classrooms exist on both the Senior and Preparatory campus. Also recently completed is the Academic Centre housing a specialist art centre, robotics lab, drama rooms and classrooms.

When combined with the close and careful attention devoted to the academic, cultural, sporting and recreational aspects of a boy’s life, it’s clear that The Southport School offers a fulfilling education second to none.
