The Rockhampton Grammar School (RGS) is Queensland’s largest boarding school. The School is listed among the Top Country Schools in Australia and the Top Queensland Schools by The Australian.

Boarders from Years 6 to 12 comprise more than a third of the School’s Secondary School student enrolment and boarding has formed the core of RGS since its founding in 1881.

Conveniently located in one of Queensland’s regional centres, we are proud to be chosen by families throughout Central Queensland, as well as Far North Queensland and Northern Territory, who want their children to feel safe and to achieve their personal best.

From the very beginning, our students form deep connections with those around them. Our staff provide the emotional and academic support children need in the transition to a large school, where students can build a diverse network of friends for life. Boarders also benefit from live-in teachers and supervisors who are on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week to make sure they feel welcome, supported and cared for.

Students are offered a multi-faceted education based not only on academics, but also on the expectation that they will participate in co-curricular activities, sport and community service. The rounded nature of the student experience makes our school the most sought-after in Central Queensland.

From towns and properties throughout Central Queensland and beyond, each boarder brings his or her own experiences, backgrounds, talents and skills to the School. In this environment, students learn and challenge each other, instilling strength of character and a love of learning.

Situated on 7.5 hectares, The Rockhampton Grammar School’s main campus and gardens house over 100 classrooms, an indoor gymnasium, two sporting ovals, an Olympic size outdoor swimming pool, tennis and volleyball courts, undercover play areas, a healthcare centre, a modern theatre, dance studios and music rooms. The School’s agricultural programme and show cattle team maintain and run the School’s demonstration farm, just a few minutes’ drive away from the main campus. It complements Belmont Station, a working cattle property and research facility, located nearby used by RGS Agriculture students. Ritamada, the School’s outdoor education campus on the Capricorn Coast, takes students away from the routine of the classroom and extends the curriculum into the great outdoors.
