Emerald Agricultural College has been at the forefront of delivering industry accredited and endorsed training for over 40 years. This focus on practical learning ensures students are given every opportunity of success in their agricultural career.
Emerald Agricultural College is located on the Capricorn Highway 3km east of Emerald. It is a purpose built agricultural training facility with several crops grown at the College as well as a feedlot, stables, arena, machinery shed and student accommodation and classrooms. The College training facilities are complemented by two cattle properties – Narayen and Berrigurra - where students further develop their skills in cattle production and stock handling. Students also have access to training opportunities on approved provider properties.
The practical nature of the courses delivered at Emerald Agricultural College see students develop close working relationships with both instructors and peers. Graduates frequently remain friends for life, having formed close friendships with the people they’ve lived and worked with at College. The PACE program enables students to complete their Year 11 and 12 studies along with agricultural training at Longreach Pastoral College. Benefits upon graduation for students include: eligible for QCE, AHC10210 Certificate I in Agrifood Operations, AHC20110 Certificate II In Agriculture, AHC32810 Certificate III in Rural Operations, 30 days work experience each year, literacy and numeracy embedded in the program. PACE produces students who are skilled and workplace ready compared to the traditional pathways.
Students have access to a variety of services including a dedicated Student Support Officer whose role is to support students learning experience and a duty officer on hand out of hours. There is a vibrant Student Representative Council, and students are also encouraged to become involved in College and local sporting clubs, community events and voluntary organisations in Emerald.
Each semester students pit their skills against ‘rival’ Longreach Pastoral College students in the popular Intercol events in both sporting and industry skill events including motorbikes, horse challenges, cattle judging, chainsaw skills, touch footy, netball and debating.
Students also get involved in agricultural and industry events including Ekka and other agricultural shows.
