Yirara College has been serving secondary-age Indigenous youth from remote communities within the Northern Territory and across its borders since 1973. The College provides educational opportunities and experiences enabling students to re-imagine their future as citizens of a global world while being affirmed in their Indigenous identity. The College does this in the context of a Christian community where each student is accepted and affirmed as loved of God.
Since 1993 the College has operated as a Lutheran boarding college, catering for students from 11 to 18 years of age. The majority of students speak English as a second or third language. The educational programs of the College are offered through both the boarding house and day school, with boarding focusing on social and life-skills development, and the day school on academic and vocational learning in contexts of real-life application. The College is located 7 km south of the Alice Springs CBD.
