This course is designed to be a practical course which can be successfully completed by most adults involved with the residential care of school children. As such the course will be useful for those in positions such as matron, tutor, house-parent, teacher or GAP student. The course is designed to establish a national standard of basic knowledge and skills necessary to perform residential care duties effectively.

This book can be marked by ABSA who will issue a certificate of completion at a cost of $55 (incl GST) plus postage and handling. This service is only offered to staff from member schools.
This book can be marked by Australian Catholic University (ACU National).
Full cost per book, including postage: (Australia $250, New Zealand AUD$300, other International AUD$350 ). A Certificate in Residential Care is issued by ACU National in association with ABSA and is formally recognized by New Zealand Boarding Schools’ Association, National Association for Rural Student Accommodation and Country High Schools Hostel Authority. This certificate may also be used to apply for credit into the Residential Care courses offered by ACU National. Names of recipients of this certificate are added to a national register which has been operating since 2002.
This course is designed for people working as residential carers in boarding schools, hostels and university colleges. The course provides a core for ongoing professional development, helping students to understand the nature and lifestyle of adolescents and young adults, together with responsibilities and duty of care to young people in their charge.
